Maldives shares economic impact of COVID-19 with Pakistan

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has shared with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the fragile economy of Maldives which is a small island nation highly dependent on tourism and imports.

Foreign Minister Shahid and his Pakistani counterpart held the discussions via a telephonic conversation. Noting the escalating situation of COVID-19 pandemic around the globe and in Pakistan, Minister Shahid expressed solidarity with Pakistan and commended the efforts of the government in addressing the situation.

Noting the impact of COVID-19 on the economy of Maldives, Minister Shahid apprised Minister Qureshi on the measures implemented by the government to curb the spread of COVID-19. Furthermore, Minister Shahid thanked the government of Pakistan for their continuous assistance and looking after the welfare of Maldivians, in particular the students, in Pakistan, in these challenging times.

Minister Shahid assured Foreign Minister Qureshi that Pakistani citizens in Maldives will be well cared for and looked after.
