National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed the state is paying USD 48.71 per day for each room allocated in isolation and quarantine facilities in resorts.
NEOC stated the government is not required to pay any fees to the quarantine facilities established in resorts, however, adding USD 48.17 is fixed per day including food and other services required for people in the facilities.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the government can utilise the resorts for a period of 3 months without any fee in case of a public emergency. Mabrook stated the period can be extended should the government require.
However, Mabrook revealed the government is paying USD 48.71 per day for rooms used for the cause. He added the amount is fixed including the food and other services required for people in the facilities.
The government revealed 1,158 rooms from 11 resorts are used as isolation and quarantine facilities which is 2,288 beds. The rooms are allocated from Vilivaru, Hulhule' Island Hotel (HIH), Velidhu Island Resort, Fun Island Resort and Spa, Malahini Kuda Bandos Resort, Biyaadhoo Island Resort, Dhiggiri Tourist Resort, Holiday Island Resort, Embudu Village, Royal Island Resort and Spa and VARU By Atmosphere.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed all passengers travelling to Maldives by air except for tourists checking-in to resorts will be quarantined for 14-days at a place designated by the government. The agency said all passengers entering the country in all types of visas will be quarantined as a precautionary measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Noting the orders shall be given full effect by all authorities and persons concerned, HPA advised everyone to follow the instructions given by all relevant authorities.
