Parliament of Maldives decides to hold sittings via the internet from next week onwards.
Speaking to PSM News, Communications Director at Parliament Secretariat Hassan Ziyau revealed the sittings will proceed as scheduled from Monday. Ziyau added debating and voting will be held online, noting in order to follow the precautionary measures taken by the government over the COVID-19 pandemic the parliament decided to hold online sitting via an online network. He also said committee meetings will be held online, while administrative staff are also working from home.
On March 18, Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed announced all sittings have been suspended as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 pandemic. He said any necessary sitting would be held during this period despite the suspension of sittings.
