Supply of staple food items arranged for the next 10 months

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured there would be no shortage of staple food items in Maldives during the next 10 months.

Speaking at the press conference held regarding the situation of COVID-19 in Maldives, President Solih stated the current stock of sugar and rice in State Trading Organisation (STO) is sufficient for 10 months, while the stock of wheat flour is sufficient for 5 months. He added the government will ensure there would be no shortage of food and other essential items amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The president further stated the government is taking measures to ease some of the burdens on the people of Maldives during this pandemic. In this regard, he noted the government has decided to subsidise all electricity and water bills for the next two months in order to help the public overcome the financial difficulties that will come along with the economic decline.

The government has been taking several measures to counter the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, assuring the safety and well-being of Maldivian citizens will be prioritised above all else.
