The government of India has arranged logistics to provide essential supplies for Maldives despite the lockdown imposed in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The High Commission of India in Maldives revealed essential supplies of rice, wheat flour and sugar to Maldives from India are being maintained despite logistical difficulties. The high commission said supply of sugar and rice enough for 20 days will soon be brought to Maldives, adding 1,500 metric tonnes of rice and 500 metric tonnes of sugar are being loaded at Tuticorin Port.
Meanwhile, the government of Maldives has assured food supplies will be available to citizens without interruption. Despite the restrictions on the export of medicine, India has arranged means of export to Maldives. In this regard, Maldives has received essential medicine sufficient for 3 months from India.
