Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has announced a Maldivian has tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking at the daily press briefing held at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Health Minister Ameen announced the 38-year-old Maldivian who was tested positive for COVID-19 had returned to Maldives from the UK on March 22 and was immediately quarantined. The minister said the individual was tested for the virus on March 25 after showing symptoms, while the positive test result was confirmed today.
While this is the 14th positive case reported in Maldives, this is the first time a Maldivian has been tested positive. All 13 previous cases were foreign nationals from resorts and safaris. While a Maldivian was reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 in UAE, the case has not been officially confirmed by authorities.
Following the new positive case, the number of individuals currently being treated for COVID-19 in Maldives is 5, as 9 individuals have fully recovered.
