Tourism Minister calls to create the safest tomorrow to travel

Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has called on the world to create the safest tomorrow to travel as part of attempts to revive tourism.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Global Tourism Crisis Committee convened by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), Minister of Tourism and the Chair of the UNWTO South Asia Regional Commission Ali Waheed said the top priority must now be to create safe ways to start travelling. He stated the world cannot be locked down for months and hence, the world must work together to prevail and create safe environments to travel.

The minister further highlighted the importance of prompt proactive preventive measures under the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO). Citing the government's decision to suspend on-arrival visas for tourists visiting Maldives, the minister said this is a sad day for the tourism sector, although the measure is deemed necessary given the impact of the global pandemic.
