National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has revealed the results of the two Italian tourists who tested positive for COVID-19 came after they departed Maldives after completing their 14-day quarantine period.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the two individuals who tested positive were quarantined from the Island Safari. Mabrook said Health Protection Agency (HPA) followed guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in attending to the case. He said HPA has tested all individuals on the safari, with all, except the two Italians, returning negative results.
The safari accommodated a total of 32 individuals, including 16 tourists and 16 crew members. HPA had kept all individuals in quarantine at the Farukolhufushi isolation facility.
The spokesperson said 352 Italian tourists departed Maldives in a flight arranged by the Italian government to evacuate its tourists from Maldives. While 12 tourists and 3 crew members of the safari departed on Friday, everyone except for the 2 captains have been quarantined in the Vilivaru quarantine facility. Mabrook said arrangements for their departure are also in progress.
