The government has made arrangements for items to be sent to Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka following the declaration of curfew across the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) Mohamed Mabrook Azeez revealed a cargo flight has been arranged to Sri Lanka upon instructions by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, in order to facilitate families to send items to individuals who are currently in Sri Lanka. The spokesperson revealed the flight is scheduled to arrive in Maldives on April 5 with stocks of food, adding items can be sent on board the flight as it returns to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka declared curfew across the nation for an indefinite period of time as part of the efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19. Food and other essential items are being provided to residents under a special policy set by the Sri Lankan government.
