10 tonnes of goods brought from Sri Lanka

The national carrier, Maldivian, has brought in 10 tonnes of goods from Sri Lanka via its cargo freighters.

The first cargo freighter was arranged to travel to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The goods mostly include fruits and vegetables and some health-related equipment.

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has arranged special cargo freighters to ease businesses in importing items from abroad. In a tweet, IASL revealed Maldivian cargo freighters will be arranged from Colombo, Trivandrum, Chennai, Bangkok and Dubai. These are some of the key markets Maldives businesses mostly import goods from. IASL stated sectors will be increased following demand for its service.

IASL introduced special cargo freighters at a time when most airlines have stopped operations to Maldives due to the escalating situation of COVID-19 pandemic in the world.
