A third Maldivian has tested positive for COVID-19.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed the third Maldivian who tested positive had returned to the country from the UK, and was placed under quarantine at Royal Island Resort Quarantine Facility. The first two Maldivians who had tested positive for the virus had also returned from the UK.
The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Maldives has now risen to 18. While 13 of them have fully recovered, two cases belong to Italian tourists who left Maldives before their positive result was confirmed.
The only active cases in Maldives belong to the 3 Maldivians who tested positive after returning from the UK. HPA stated all three individuals are in stable condition.
While the number of positive cases in Maldives increased to 18, National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) stated the country is not yet in a community spread situation. However, authorities have urged the public to stay indoors and to practice social distancing, in order to mitigate the risk of COVID-19.
