National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has revealed a total of 77 individuals have been isolated following the contact tracing of the first two Maldivians who tested positive for COVID-19.
Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said 48 individuals have been isolated after tracing the contacts of the second Maldivian who tested positive for the virus, while 29 individuals were isolated after tracing contacts of the first Maldivian who tested positive. Mabrook said while the majority of the contacts have been subjected to self-isolation at home, some of them have been taken to state facilities. He further said Health Protection Agency (HPA) is monitoring the conditions of the three Maldivians who tested positive, and the people in isolation.
The second Maldivian who tested positive returned to Maldives from the UK and was in Royal Island Quarantine Facility when his result came positive. Meanwhile, the 38 year old Maldivian who first tested positive also returned to Maldives from the UK on March 25, and his result came positive after two days. A total of three Maldivians have tested positive for COVID-19, all of whom had returned to the country from the UK.
Maldives has now seen the recovery of 13 individuals who tested positive, while the only active cases in the country are the three Maldivians who have tested positive for the virus.
NEOC said the government will attend to the needs of the people in quarantine and self-isolation at homes, adding they will be transferred to state facilities if they have any challenges to remain in isolation.
