HPA bans check-in of tourists to guesthouses and hotels across Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has banned the check-in of tourists to all guesthouses and city hotels across Maldives for an indefinite period of time.

The ban was placed under the legal powers vested in the Director-General of Public Health during the State of National Health Emergency. Health Protection Agency (HPA) has instructed all guesthouses and city hotels to suspend the check-in of tourists for an indefinite period of time, although tourists who are currently checked-in are allowed to stay until the end of their booking period.

Tourist arrivals in Maldives have come to a halt after the administration stopped issuing on-arrival visas in order to contain the spread of COVID-19. The administration has introduced stimulus packages to help tourist businesses overcome the damages caused by the pandemic, stating the packages will help to recover the businesses without dismissing staff.
