Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated social distancing and prayers are important to ensure protection from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The vice president noted the efforts of the relevant authorities require the support of all citizens. He called on everyone to obey the orders of authorities and to practice staying home as instructed by the health officials.
Moreover, Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla appealed to all citizens to follow orders of the security forces to overcome the situation soon. He expressed orders from the authorities during the State of Public Health Emergency are imposed for the benefit of all citizens.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed, under the Public Health Protection Act, Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru has decided to impose a lockdown in the Greater Male' region from 1700 hours to 2000 hours from April 2 onwards, in order to impose measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Maldives.
During the lockdown hours, driving and walking on the roads and public transportation services are prohibited. Moreover, groups of more than 3 people are restricted from walking on the roads at all times.
