449 complaints submitted to Job Centre

National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has revealed 449 complaints have been submitted to the Job Centre regarding mistreatment of employees amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez stated the job centre, which was established by the administration as a facility to report cases of employers who dismiss or cut wages of employees amid the COVID-19 pandemic, has received 449 complaints thus far. He noted the cases will be attended by the Ministry of Economic Development.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM) recently revealed approximately 11,000 resort employees have been placed on no-pay leaves by resorts following the pandemic. NEOC has urged the public to report any illegal actions taken against employees to the job centre.
