WHO conducts videoconference with health ministers of Southeast Asia

Regional Director of World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh has conducted a videoconference meeting with health ministers of Southeast Asia, regarding the measures put in place to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The videoconference meeting was attended by health ministers of 11 countries in Southeast Asia, including Maldives. The meeting was also attended by technical experts active at the WHO headquarters in the efforts to control COVID-19.

During the meeting, Minister of Health of Maldives Abdulla Ameen thanked the regional director for organising a meeting between health ministers of the region. He also acknowledged and appreciated the support and assistance provided to Maldives by different countries of the region amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, health ministers shared the measures taken by their respective countries to contain the spread of COVID-19. In addition, the technical team of WHO shared details of the measures taken by the organisation to control the spread of the disease.

WHO assured all countries that assistance and support will be provided to mitigate the risk of COVID-19. In this regard, the regional director assured test kits, reagents and treatment items will be sent to the countries in the near future.
