President wishes British Prime Minister a speedy recovery from COVID-19

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has relayed his wishes for a speedy recovery to Prime Minister of UK Boris Johnson, on behalf of himself and the people of Maldives.

The prime minister tested positive for COVID-19 eleven days ago and has been hospitalised in London for treatment. He was moved into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on April 6 after his symptoms worsened.

In his message, President Solih expressed his deep concern for the prime minister’s health and wished him a speedy recovery. The president ended his message by reiterating his hope that global efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19 prove successful, and by emphasising the unwavering ties of friendship between Maldives and the UK.

UK has reported over 55,000 cases of COVID-19, including over 6,000 deaths. During the absence of Prime Minister Johnson, the UK government is led by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Dominic Raab.
