Male’ City Council has announced a total of 362 shops will provide delivery services in case a total lockdown is imposed in the capital.
The city council identified shops in the Greater Male’ region which will deliver goods to homes during a total lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, 334 shops in Male’, 90 shops in Hulhumale’ and 30 shops in Villimale’ were identified.
The city council added 202 shops in Male’ and 17 shops in Villimale’ have arranged means to accept online payments during a lockdown situation. The city council also stated 63 shops in Hulhumale’ have agreed to accept online payments during such a situation, citing a survey conducted by Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
As part of the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, the government has imposed strict measures in the Greater Male’ region to avoid gatherings of people. As such, a partial lockdown has been imposed from 1700hrs to 2000hrs daily, while dining in restaurants and cafes have been banned.
Delivery services have also been instructed to operate during certain hours, while all businesses have been urged to facilitate online transactions.
