National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has stated the COVID-19 pandemic underlines the importance of a decentralised and interconnected healthcare system
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the current situation has helped us to truly realise the importance of the efforts of healthcare workers. Acknowledging the work being done by about 6000 healthcare workers across the country, Mabrook thanked them all for their priceless contribution in the fight against COVID-19.
Furthermore, the spokesperson stated the pandemic has underlined the importance of a decentralised and interconnected healthcare system. He said the government will use this experience to identify areas for further development in the current healthcare system and establish a decentalised healthcare system in the country.
The number of positive cases of COVID-19 reported in Maldives is 19, of which 13 patients have made a full recovery. There are four active cases in Maldives right now, in addition to two cases of Italian tourists whose positive results were confirmed after they left Maldives.
Over 2,000 samples have been tested in the country, while over 800 individuals are placed in quarantine and isolation facilities as a precautionary measure against the spread of the virus. The individuals in quarantine facilities include individuals who returned on repatriation flights from India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
