Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has said it is too soon to conclude the COVID-19 pandemic situation is improving in the Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference held at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Health Minister Ameen stated the actions taken in the fight against COVID-19 such as travel restrictions and travelling within the country resulted in a delay in the spread. Noting most of the cases detected in the Maldives were from resorts and safaris, the minister expressed there is no definite proof COVID-19 is spreading in the community. Therefore, the minister said it can be concluded the spread of COVID-19 has been contained in the Maldives. However, he reiterated it is too early to determine the situation is improving in the Maldives.
Furthermore, the health minister said it is crucial to practice handwashing, maintaining self-hygiene, social distancing and staying at home unless necessary. The minister said the government offices and schools are closed to encourage staying indoors. He urged everyone to follow the recommendations and orders of relevant authorities to ensure every citizen is safe from the pandemic.
