Resorts urged to inform HPA if employees present COVID-19 symptoms

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has urged resorts to immediately inform Health Protection Agency (HPA) if any COVID-19 like symptoms are found from an employee within 14 days after the last tourist leaves the resort.

Speaking at the daily press briefing held at National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Health Minister Ameen noted the current protocols allow staff to exit the resorts 14 days after the departure of the last tourist in the resort. However, he urged resorts to immediately inform HPA if any COVID-19 like symptoms, such as fever and coughing, are identified from an employee during that period.

The minister noted some resorts have failed to inform authorities about employees falling sick in order to avoid extending the quarantine period. He said failing to provide adequate information to authorities puts the whole country at risk, and urged resorts to comply with the instructions from HPA.

If any resort employees present COVID-19 like symptoms within 14 days after the departure of the last tourist, the resort would be placed under monitoring until samples can be tested.
