Government seeks contractor for Maafaru Airport runway extension

Ministry of Finance has issued an announcement seeking a contractor for the extension of the runway at Maafaru International Airport.

The announcement by the finance ministry states the runway extension project is to be contracted on a design, procure and build basis. Companies which fulfill the requirements provided in the announcement are required to apply for prequalification before April 19.

Maafaru International Airport was developed with a runway of 3,200 metres and was opened for scheduled flights on January 1. Extending the runway of the airport was one of the electoral pledges of the government. The government revealed funding for the project has been arranged from the UAE.

Ministry of Environment issued the green light for the project in January, after revising the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project.
