National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has stated 500 samples will be tested for COVID-19 in the survey which is conducted to identify the level of local transmission in the Maldives.
Speaking at the daily press briefing held at NEOC, Head of Communicable Disease Department at Health Protection Agency (HPA) Dr. Nazla Rafeeg said a total of 500 samples will be taken across the country for the survey, adding the number of samples taken from different regions will vary depending on the population. She said the preparations for the survey are underway and that sampling will begin within the next two or three days.
NEOC stated the measures imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives can only be relaxed after ensuring there is no community spread of the disease. NEOC stated it understands the need to return to a normal situation, adding measures will be revised based on the changing conditions. The centre stated carelessness will lead to more time being taken to return to a normal situation.
NEOC has stated the findings of the community spread survey will be shared with the public soon.
