Maritime studies to be prioritised to operate a successful shipping line: MSS

Managing Director of Maldives State Shipping (MSS) Abdulla Saeed has said the national shipping line will only be successful if priority is given to enhance maritime studies in the Maldives.

Managing Director Abdulla Saeed stated Maldivians have lost their confidence in operating a national shipping line, following the bankruptcy of Maldives National Shipping Limited (MNSL). He assured the MSS will restore the trust and confidence of the public.

Highlighting MSS was launched with feeder services via Colombo, Abdulla Saeed announced the decision to bring in more direct lines to the Maldives. He added direct lines will be created with countries with established transshipment ports such as Singapore, Thailand and the UAE.

Moreover, the managing director of the national shipping line revealed new services that will diversify the economy and minimise the impact in difficult situations such as now. He noted with delight the service is a new door to bring in foreign currency to the country.

The national shipping line was officially launched with the docking of MV Iberian Express, the first vessel of the shipping line. MSS was formed as a subsidiary company of the State Trading Organisation (STO). The company was formed with the purpose of facilitating the import of items through a local company at low prices.
