Some islands hit with water crisis

Ministry of Environment has stated it has received requests for assistance from 48 islands facing severe drinking water shortages.

The ministry stated it has provided assistance to 27 of the 48 islands across the Maldives. The environment ministry is collaborating with Fenaka Corporation Limited, the state utility company in providing drinking water to the islands facing shortages. Drinking water to these islands will be supplied from facilities established in the islands nearby.

Many islands are hit with water crisis every year during the prolonged dry season. The government has launched various projects in many islands across the country under the assistance of the Green Climate Fund to reduce the drinking water shortages faced in the Maldives during the South East Monsoon.
