Stay indoors and follow instructions, pleads Maldivian President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appealed to take care of each other and to put forth patience during the current period of crisis.

In a televised address delivered following the detection of a COVID-19 case in Male' City, President Solih urged to respect each other and follow the instructions given by the relevant authorities. In a very emotional address, the president urged Maldivians to cooperate with the efforts of the authorities to overcome the situation of COVID-19 in the country. Acknowledging the difficulties faced during such a time, he stated all measures are necessary to ensure the safety of the citizens.

Delivering information about the latest case, President Solih said efforts are underway to determine how the person contracted COVID-19 since no travel history or direct contacts with infected people have been recorded. He noted samples have been taken for testing related to the case detected in the capital city.

Moreover, President Solih reassured priority will be given to ensure the health security of the citizens and the country. He expressed hope the current situation can be improved with the cooperative efforts of the citizens and the authorities.

Furthermore, the president revealed basic food items, medicine and other essentials are stocked in sufficient amounts. He said service providers will arrange means to continue providing the services to ensure essential services and needs are uninterrupted.

In conclusion, President Solih advised Maldivians to stay patient, follow instructions, take care of each other, maintain Islamic values and to pray.
