Five people who returned from India quarantined in IGMH

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed 5 Maldivians who returned from India have been quarantined in a separate location in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the five individuals were quarantined in IGMH as they are under treatment for kidney diseases. Mabrook stated 3 of the 5 individuals are required to undergo dialysis daily. He added 2 children and their parents are also quarantined in IGMH in addition to the 5 individuals.

The national airline, Maldivian, had evacuated 159 locals from Bengaluru and Cochin due to the lockdown imposed in India over the COVID-19 pandemic. The 159 locals brought from Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum to the Maldives were seeking treatment under the universal health insurance scheme of Aasandha Company Limited.

The locals were taken to a quarantine facility upon arrival to the Maldives, where they will undergo tests for COVID-19 following the completion of the mandatory 14-day quarantine period. NEOC said a total of 962 people are quarantined in different facilities across the Maldives.
