Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has called on all authorities to work together to ensure safety, protection and basic human rights of all individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press statement, HRCM urged the state to work collectively to ensure and protect the human rights of all citizens despite the current situation. HRCM appealed to work without discrimination to save the society from the pandemic and called on all relevant authorities to ensure the safety of all citizens.
Furthermore, HRCM advised all citizens to practice self-responsibility and to follow the instructions from all relevant authorities to ensure the measures imposed are effective. The authorities have repeatedly urged the citizens to practice social distancing, to stay indoors and to wash hands frequently.
Meanwhile, the government has reassured all essential services will be provided without interruptions during the pandemic.
