Technical Advisory Group (TAG) has revealed the current situation can be envisaged as the beginning of a community transmission since the first case of COVID-19 has been detected in the capital city.
Speaking at a press conference held at the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Dr. Ali Latheef from TAG stated some citizens are in doubt whether there is a community transmission as the first case detected in Male' City was after 40-days since COVID-19 was first detected in the Maldives. Dr. Latheef said it is possible to determine there is a community transmission of COVID-19, adding details can only be certain after contact tracing is done. He urged all citizens to stay cautious, warning the detection of COVID-19 in Male' City is dangerous.
Dr. Latheef warned although the symptoms are flu-like, any symptoms should not be taken lightly. He advised seeking medical attention if any symptoms are found.
Furthermore, Dr. Latheef spoke on the importance of maintaining physical distance and staying indoors as studies show coronavirus can be transmitted from asymptomatic persons as well. He recalled the advice of all authorities appealing to stay indoors at all times and to take precautionary measures.
