Delivery service providers urged to observe personal safety measures

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has requested delivery service providers to ensure their own personal safety by maintaining proper distances and hygiene.

Speaking to PSM News, Health Minister Ameen noted Male' City is now in a community spread situation which means COVID-19 cases are expected to rise. He advised businesses providing delivery services during the lockdown to ensure their own personal safety by maintaining proper hygiene as well as appropriate physical distances.

Furthermore, the health minister said the control measures imposed must be observed at all times in order to contain the community spread of the disease. In this regard, the minister reiterated the importance of staying home and avoiding gatherings at all times. He noted it is not safe to visit other houses or apartments, even if located in the same building.

The health minister said efforts are underway to locate Patient Zero, who is assumed to be the cause of the community outbreak. He urged all individuals who recently travelled to Male' City and returned back to their home islands, as well as residents of the capital city who have left to an island to contact the authorities if any symptoms of COVID-19 are found.

The first positive case in Male' was detected on April 15. A total of 8 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in the capital city, bringing the total number of positive cases in the Maldives to 28.
