Ninth Maldivian tests positive for COVID-19 in Male' City

A ninth person has tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’ city. With the new case; MAV29, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Maldives has risen to 29.

Samples taken from a Maldivian who was a direct contact of case MAV27 has tested positive for COVID-19, revealed Health Protection Agency (HPA). The agency previously stated it is unclear how MAV27 contracted the virus. MAV29 is the 6th positive case detected in Male’ city within 24-hours.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed the person is currently being transferred to an isolation facility.
In total, 16 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in the Maldives with 10 Maldivians currently undergoing treatment. Another 2 foreigners are receiving treatment from abroad after contracting COVID-19 while in the Maldives.

The first case identified in Male’ City, known as MAV21, tested positive for COVID-19 on April 15. The second and third cases, known as MAV22 and MAV23, tested positive for COVID-19 on April 16. Meanwhile, a total of five cases, MAV24, MAV25, MAV26, MAV27, and MAV28, tested positive for COVID-19 on April 17 in Male' City.

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) is conducting contact tracing of patients who tested positive for COVID-19 in the capital city. NEOC has asked to inform the Health Protection Agency (HPA) if an individual is known to have contact with the positive cases and to seek medical attention if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19.
