First foreigner tests positive for COVID-19 in Male' City

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed a foreigner has tested positive for COVID-19 in Male' City for the first time.

Samples taken from a Bangladeshi national; MAV32 who was a direct contact of MAV30 has tested positive for COVID-19, according to HPA. MAV32 is the 12th person to become positive for COVID-19 in Male’ City. The person is currently being transferred to an isolation facility, added HPA.

Earlier two more people were tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’ city. In this regard, samples taken from a Maldivian who was a direct contact of case MAV27 and samples taken from a Maldivian who was a direct contact of case MAV28 have also tested positive for COVID-19.

With the new cases; MAV30, MAV31 and MAV32 the total number of COVID-19 cases in Maldives has risen to 32. A total of 11 locals tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’ city.

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) is conducting contact tracing of patients who tested positive for COVID-19 in the capital city. NEOC has asked to inform the Health Protection Agency (HPA) if an individual is known to have contact with the positive cases and to seek medical attention if they are showing symptoms of COVID-19.

So far, Maldives recorded 32 positive cases of COVID-19, out of which 12 cases are detected in Male’ city. There are a total of 14 active cases, while 16 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Maldives.
