Maldives Police Service (MPS) has decided to allow people to go out for basic necessities and services once every three days during the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until May 1.
Speaking at a press conference, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Fairoosh stated people will be allowed to go out every three days, starting from Sunday, to seek basic necessities and services from certain areas of the capital city. Fairoosh revealed permits will be given to one person from each household to go out, adding permission will be given for individuals who fill a form via the online platform of MPS. He said individuals will be issued permits with a QR code, noting notifications will be given about the areas they can go and when they should be back home.
Explaining Male' City will be divided into 26 zones under the mechanism, the assistant police commissioner warned the permits are not an approval to roam around freely on the roads, but rather as ease in seeking household necessities during the two-week lockdown.
