Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has warned of legal action against individuals who refuse to cooperate with government authorities and withhold information regarding COVID-19.
Speaking to PSM News, Shameem stated authorities must probe into individuals who withhold information during the challenging times amid the pandemic. Supporting his case with evidence from the penal code, Shameem stated the punishment for withholding information is a jail sentence as it can be graded as providing false information to authorities and neglecting the lives of others.
Hence, the prosecutor general called on all citizens to cooperate with the authorities as the government takes measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives.
