National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has announced all 173 samples collected from employees of Kuredu Island Resort have tested negative for COVID-19.
Speaking at the daily press briefing held at the NEOC, Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said samples of all employees have been collected and tested, although the total number of samples collected from the island was not shared.
The first COVID-19 case in the Maldives was reported from Kuredu following an imported case. An Italian tourist who left the country after staying in Kuredu tested positive for COVID-19 and the resort doctor who had direct contact with the patient tested positive for COVID-19 later. An additional four direct contacts in Kuredu tested positive for COVID-19, all of whom have now successfully recovered.
Kuredu has been placed under monitoring for over 50 days and Health Protection Authority (HPA) has made the decision to test all employees of the resort for COVID-19 as a precautionary measure before they are permitted to leave the island.
