Ministry of Finance has extended the application deadline for the tender of the Maafaru International Airport runway extension project.
The project is to be contracted on a design, procure, and build basis. Contractors that fulfill the experience and capability criteria were initially required to apply for prequalification on April 19. However, the prequalification application has now been extended to May 11.
The opening of prequalification applications will take place at 1100hrs on May 11 at the Ministry of Finance. The ministry said any applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Maafaru International Airport was developed with a runway of 3,200 metres and was opened for scheduled flights on January 1. Extending the runway of the airport was one of the electoral pledges of the government. The government revealed funding for the project has been arranged from the UAE.
Ministry of Environment issued the green light for the project in January, after revising the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project.
