Health Protection Agency (HPA) has extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region for an additional 14-days.
On April 15, a 24-hour lockdown was imposed in the Greater Male' Region following the detection of COVID-19 in Male' City, which was extended on April 16. On April 17, a wider lockdown was imposed for further two weeks to contain COVID-19 and to curb the community spread in the capital city.
During the lockdown, HPA has banned unauthorised individuals from going out, using public transportation including buses and ferries and travelling in and out of Male', Villimale', Hulhumale', Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu. However, HPA revealed the restrictive measures are eased on the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), healthcare professionals, and pass holders of the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC).
The lockdown was extended following the detection of several positive cases of COVID-19 cases in Male' City. This is the third time a lockdown is being imposed in the Greater Male' Region to contain the spread of COVID-19. In addition, a State of Public Health Emergency was declared for a period of 30 days on March 12 which was extended until April 30.
HPA has urged to follow the advice and instructions given by the relevant authorities. HPA has also raised the alert level in the Greater Male' Region to Red.
