The Maldives has extended the State of Public Health Emergency until the end of May.
The statement issued by Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen said the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Abubakuru has advised maintaining the State of Public Health Emergency to ensure the safety of all citizens amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister stated the risk of widespread community transmission of COVID-19 in the Maldives remains high, adding the director-general believes further measures are needed to control the spread of COVID-19.
The Maldives initially declared State of Public Health Emergency for a period of 30 days on March 12. The public health emergency was later extended until April 30.
The Director-General of Public Health has advised all authorities to continue taking stringent measures deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the public.
