National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 from Narudhoo and Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll have been transferred to Dhonakulhi Quarantine Facility in Haa Alif Atoll.
Speaking at the daily press conference, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the 100-bed Hideaway Island Resort operated in Dhonakulhi has now been converted as the quarantine facility. The 9 individuals transferred to Dhonakulhi are direct contacts of a boat captain who tested positive for COVID-19.
Mabrook said 118 individuals have been identified as contacts and 13 are symptomatic to COVID-19. He added Inguraidhoo, Raa Atoll has been placed under monitoring by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The islands that are related to the case and placed under monitoring include Utheemu and Dhihdhoo in Haa Alif Atoll, Hirimaradhoo and Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Maaungoodhoo, Feevah, Milandhoo, Goidhoo and Narudhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, and Holhudhoo, Maafaru, Miladhoo, Kendhikulhudhoo and Velidhoo in Noonu Atoll.
NEOC stated contact tracing is still ongoing in the view that it could become a big cluster as the boat travelled to many islands. The boat carried 98 people from Male' City to Narudhoo after transiting in a number of other islands. NEOC said there is a possibility of community spread in Narudhoo.
Speaking at the press conference, Mabrook also announced the decision to transfer people in Faurkolhufushi Isolation Facility to Kuda Bandos Isolation Facility. He said individuals who test positive for COVID-19 in the Greater Male' Region will now be transferred to Kuda Bandos.
