COVID-19 cases in the Maldives rises to 491

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 491.

HPA said 157 Maldivians and 334 foreigners, including 261 Bangladeshis and 51 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19. In total, 471 individuals are undergoing treatment, including 6 individuals who are undergoing treatment at the DH11 facility at Dharumavantha Hospital. Another 2 foreigners are being treated abroad after contracting the disease while in the Maldives.

HPA said 17 individuals have made full recoveries and an 83-year-old woman who was positive for COVID-19 had passed away. She is the first death from COVID-19 in the Maldives and was recorded 53 days after the detection of the first cases on March 7.

HPA said there are 1,225 individuals in quarantine facilities and 424 individuals in isolation facilities. HPA also revealed 8,037 samples have been taken, with 7,273 samples testing negative and 283 samples pending results.

HPA has extended the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives until May 31 and has also extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until April 14.
