National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed the project to develop the COVID-19 Village is being undertaken by military personnel who are in quarantine.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the development of COVID-19 Village is ongoing without any interruption, despite dozens of military personnel testing positive for COVID-19. He said officers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have pledged their commitment to providing services to the nation during the time of crisis, noting the officers are continuing their efforts to develop the COVID-19 Village as the facility is crucial for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
COVID-19 Village is being developed as a 300-bed isolation facility, with an accommodation block and a service building. The accommodation block will house doctors, nurses, and health experts working at the facility. Meanwhile, the service building will include a kitchen, a laundry area, and a waste management unit.
NEOC said USD 2.58 million will be spent on developing the facility.
