11 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Narudhoo and Milandhoo

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed additional cases have been confirmed in Narudhoo and Milandhoo pushing the total COVID-19 cases related to a boat to 11.

Speaking at the daily press conference held at the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said the amount now totals 11 after two additional individuals tested positive for COVID-19. Of the total 11 cases, 10 tested positive in Narudhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, while the other is an individual from Milandhoo in the same atoll. Eight of the 9 previous cases are from Narudhoo, with one case from Milandhoo.

All the cases in Narudhoo include family members of the boat captain who first tested positive for COVID-19 from the island. The boat left Male' City on April 15, transited in 13 islands before arriving in Narudhoo on April 16. The islands include Dhihdhoo and Utheemu in Haa Alifu Atoll, Narudhoo, Funadhoo, Milandhoo, Maaungoodhoo, Feevah in Shaviyani Atoll, Maafaru, Henbadhoo, Holhudhoo, Kendhikulhudhoo in Noonu Atoll.

NEOC has since announced the islands have been put under monitoring by HPA.
