Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 527.
HPA said 183 Maldivians and 344 foreigners, including 268 Bangladeshis and 52 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19. In total, 507 individuals are undergoing treatment, including 6 individuals who are undergoing treatment at the DH11 facility at Dharumavantha Hospital. Another 2 foreigners are being treated abroad after contracting the disease while in the Maldives.
HPA said 18 individuals have made full recoveries and an 83-year-old woman who was positive for COVID-19 had passed away. She is the first death from COVID-19 in the Maldives and was recorded 53 days after the detection of the first cases on March 7.
HPA said there are 1,311 individuals in quarantine facilities and 447 individuals in isolation facilities. HPA also revealed 8,429 samples have been taken, with 7,700 samples testing negative and 210 samples pending results.
HPA has extended the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives until May 31 and has also extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until April 14.
