Delegation sent by president observes situation in Narudhoo

A delegation sent by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has observed the situation of Narudhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, following the detection of COVID-19 cases on the island.

Speaking at the daily press conference, Spokesperson of National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) Mohamed Mabrook Azeez provided details of the delegation sent to Narudhoo by the president. The delegation included Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen, Chief of Staff at President's Office Ali Zahir, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, and Dr. Ali Latheef from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of NEOC. The delegation was sent to Narudhoo to observe the general situation of the island and to identify measures that need to be taken to mitigate the risk of community transmission in the island.

The spokesperson said the delegation met with the task force established on the island and discussed measures that can be taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 on the island. He said the gaps identified during the trip will be attended immediately.

NEOC declared there is a community spread of COVID-19 in Narudhoo after several residents of the islands tested positive upon coming into direct contact with a boat captain who had earlier tested positive for the disease. A number of islands in four atolls have been brought under monitoring, after tracing the contacts of the boat captain.
