Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has risen to 551.
HPA said 191 Maldivians and 360 foreigners, including 282 Bangladeshis and 52 Indians have tested positive for COVID-19. In total, 531 individuals are undergoing treatment, including 6 individuals who are undergoing treatment at the DH11 facility at Dharumavantha Hospital. Another 2 foreigners are being treated abroad after contracting the disease while in the Maldives.
HPA said 18 individuals have made full recoveries and an 83-year-old woman who was positive for COVID-19 had passed away. She is the first death from COVID-19 in the Maldives and was recorded 53 days after the detection of the first cases on March 7.
HPA said there are 1,759 individuals in quarantine facilities and 458 individuals in isolation facilities. HPA also revealed 9,231 samples have been taken, with 8,344 samples testing negative and 342 samples pending results.
HPA has extended the State of Public Health Emergency declared in the Maldives until May 31 and has also extended the lockdown imposed in the Greater Male' Region until April 14.
