COVID-19 related expenditure at USD 43.15 million by April

The government of the Maldives has revealed COVID-19 related expenditure was at USD 43.15 million by the end of April 2020.

At a time the government is making efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 and assist the people impacted severely with the outbreak of the pandemic, a large share of the expenses was spent on attaining medical equipment and supplies. In this regard, a total of USD 22.95 million was spent on medical expenses.

Another USD 7.17 million was spent on government subsidies in the form of food and shelter to the needy, and USD 6.11 million was spent on establishing quarantine and isolation facilities. An additional USD 2.94 million was directed on lease fees of the facilities as well. The cost of operation services and transport by April was USD 2.08 million and USD 160,000 respectively.

All government authorities are working together to overcome the impact of COVID 19 and particular efforts have been put to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the Maldives. The administration plans to work closely with the private sector to rebuild the nation and revive the economy after containing the COVIDS-19 pandemic.
