Deceased Bangladeshi worked at MNDF headquarters, 66 direct contacts traced

National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has revealed the deceased Bangladeshi national who tested positive for COVID-19 worked in the headquarters of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital revealed the 33-year-old Bangladeshi national died in the early hours of May 5 primarily after suffering a hemorrhaging of the brain. He was put on the ventilator following a tonic-clonic seizure. Despite his underlying conditions, World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines classify such cases as a COVID-19 related death as he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Speaking at the daily press briefing held at the NEOC, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal from the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) stated the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has identified 66 people who came in contact with the diseased. NEOC further stated contact tracing is still ongoing as HPA has not yet been able to identify his cluster.
