The national task force for COVID-19 has called for further restriction of movement in the Maldives during the next two weeks, as the number of cases are projected to increase.
The discussions of the national taskforce were held through a videoconference session, which was also attended by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The president has been attending the task force meetings every day.
The President's Office revealed the latest discussion emphasised the need for extra vigilance in the next two weeks as projections indicate the identification of more COVID-19 cases. The taskforce called for restriction of all movements, unless absolutely necessary.
The Greater Male' Region has been under lockdown since April 15. National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has urged the public to stay indoors at all times unless necessary during the lockdown. Arrangements have been made to seek public services through online platforms.
Individuals who need to go out for essential purposes are required to seek a police permit. Maldives Police Service (MPS) stated 2,674 people who were found on the streets without a permit have been fined, while 153 people have been brought under custody.
