The government has begun transferring COVID-19 patients to Tree Top Hospital in Hulhumale' after declaring it the specialised facility for COVID-19 patients in the Maldives.
Under an agreement with the government, the hospital has been assigned to treat COVID-19 patients for a period of three months starting from April 30. The decision was made to ensure the country has enough beds and facilities should there be a surge of COVID-19 cases.
The first patient to be transferred to the hospital was a pregnant woman who tested positive for COVID-19 at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The woman was taken to IGMH to deliver her baby.
Tree Top Hospital now has stopped receiving other patients and a temporary emergency clinic has been set up in Hulhumale' Hospital following the decision to offer the facility to the government. All admitted patients in Tree Top will be transferred to IGMH.
Tree Top Hospital is owned by Crown Company, Casa Holding, Champa Brothers and Kuredu Holdings, all successful businesses in the hospitality industry. The hospital was developed at a cost of USD 110 million and was opened in February 2018.
The two hospitals currently appropriated for COVID-19 patients in the Maldives are Tree Top Hospital and Dharumavantha Hospital.
