National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) has said a total of 2,370 individuals have been released from quarantine facilities in the Maldives.
Speaking at the daily press briefing, Spokesperson of NEOC Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the individuals were released after completing their mandatory 14-day quarantine period and returning double negative results for COVID-19. Mabrook further stated samples have been collected to release a further 41 individuals whose quarantine period is over.
Following the detection of COVID-19 in Male' City, positives cases, direct contacts of the positive cases and returning Maldivians from overseas have been quarantined after establishing faculties throughout the country. A large number of quarantine facilities in the Maldives include resorts.
The government spends USD 48.64 a day on food for every individual in the quarantine faculties. The lease fees of resorts will be waived during the period the islands are used as a quarantine facility.
NEOC says over 1,500 individuals are kept in quarantine facilities and over 700 individuals kept in isolation facilities.
